Largest Team Building At Sea
Our mission: To educate 2,500 pharmaceutical reps during an at-sea day on a week-long charter of the world’s biggest cruise ship for a training at sea. Was it a challenge? Actually, it was 30 challenges! That’s how many mental, physical and creative activities teams participated in throughout the ship. Some challenges, such as climbing Liberty of the Seas’ rock wall and surfing FlowRider were designed to allow teams to experience the ship. Others, such as solving clues using company information, or rewriting lyrics to integrate drug information into a song that was performed in the Karaoke bar reinforced training information. If the group didn’t like the activity, they could have thrown us overboard. But, fortunately for us it was smooth sailing!
Found: A Unique Corporate Hospitality Activity
The event sponsor wasn’t lost when it came time to choose the theme for her corporate hospitality event. As she was a huge fan of the TV show, we created a Lost-themed hunt that would entertain devotees of the show and those who didn’t know the difference between the Dharma Initiative and Dharma & Greg. Just like the TV show, guests were “trapped” on a private island, so they simply visited clue stations around the party. At one station guests got a piece of scrap metal with a clue on it from a downed plane. At another station, guests used the sponsor’s press release to solve a cipher left by “The Others.” All guests revealing the six numbers that were the clue solutions got six lucky numbers of their own - on a lottery ticket - and were entered into a grand prize drawing. But, the real lucky winner was the sponsor, who “found” herself surrounded by happy guests.
A Salute To Team Building
Our orders were to get the civilians and military personnel in this group to interact, learn more about the history of the organization and have a good time. And, when a general says, “This better be fun,” it better be fun! Mission accomplished! Teams went to war in trivia, music, visual and physical challenges customized to reflect their message. Participants showed off their quick reflexes as they were told to dive for beach balls being bounced around the room. In fact, the team building activity was such a success; we were drafted to execute even more activities for the organization.
Come On Down, The Party’s Right!
Participants know they should go to conference networking events, but they don’t always want to. But, they “came on down” to our technology client’s sponsored event because of The Prize Is Right activity we created to spotlight their company. Guests visited six different game stations inspired by The Price Is Right. Rather than guessing the price of products to improve their chances on a game, guests answered trivia questions about our client’s company. Guests earning enough “money” on the games were entered into a bidding showdown. If they were the one to guess closest without going over when answering a question such as, “How many years has our client’s company been in business?” they won a prize. No dogs or cats were spayed or neutered, but everyone enjoyed this pet project immensely.
A Fun-Raising Hunt
A pharmaceutical client was on a quest to help families-in-need just before the holidays. So, we thought, why not put their entire group on a quest? Floridiana Jones cracked the whip on the teams involved, encouraging them to solve as many clues as possible before the cursed treasure fell into the wrong hands. In true Floridiana Jones-style he explained if the treasure was used for good, the curse would be lifted. Each team played for a particular family-in-need. At the end of the quest, the first team to find the key opened the chest only to find there was more than enough treasure for all of the teams’ families. Sure, the activity was fun, but what really raised the hair on our arms was when we heard how the families reacted when receiving their checks.
